Large Distiller Main Campus Expansion maintains operations during complex design and construction project

This distillery expansion, a multiphase design and construction project, needed to accommodate existing infrastructure for a project phased out over multiple years, as well as remain operational throughout the work. The complexity of the site and its tight footprint meant that planning for the coordination of construction had to happen during the design phase. Each discipline addressed and coordinated how their designs would be implemented and sequenced throughout the construction phases.

Rabbit Hole Distillery’s openness to pushing the boundaries of tradition and its interest in reducing maintenance costs combined for an extraordinary opportunity for Luckett & Farley’s multidisciplinary team: designing a first-of-its-kind steel rickhouse.

Rabbit Hole’s unique, distinctive steel rickhouses highlight Luckett & Farley’s commitment to budget-conscience design and structure. The cost-effective cold-rolled steel is also easier to build with while still delivering on performance and longevity. Other improvements on the standard rickhouse include a third point of support to keep barrels from getting twisted, and the installation of a pneumatic lift system that will be less expensive to operate and safer for rickhouse employees as they move the heavy barrels.
