ABOUT THIS PROJECT
As part of a partnership spanning over thirty years, our multi-disciplinary team was tasked with designing and executing a multi-phase project for the expansion of the Brown-Forman Distillery. The project required thoughtful integration of new operational elements with the existing infrastructure, ensuring the distillery's operations continued uninterrupted while significantly expanding its capacity. The phased approach spanned multiple years, with each stage meticulously planned to align with the distillery’s long-term operational needs and the complexities of its production process.
A key challenge involved maintaining full operational status at the site while simultaneously executing a large-scale redesign. The facility houses a complex, end-to-end distillation process that starts with the grain and culminates with the aging of the finished product in barrels. We ensured that production continued seamlessly without interruption, a critical factor for Brown-Forman’s commitment to maintain production capacity throughout the project timeline.
Due to the constrained footprint of the site, close coordination with construction partners was vital to ensure a smooth transition between project phases. The project constraints required creative design solutions and flexibility, especially when it came to sequencing construction phases and balancing multiple elements of the expansion. Our team worked closely with the client and contractors to align on timelines, resources, and material choices that minimized disruption to ongoing production.
The final result was a significantly expanded distillery capable of increasing production output and modernizing the facility to meet future demand. Careful planning and a phased approach allowed Brown-Forman to preserve operational continuity while developing a facility that blends functionality and cutting-edge technology.
