5 ways to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month

Bourbon is deeply ingrained in Kentucky's cultural identity. Our rich history of bourbon production dates back over two centuries, with some of the oldest and most iconic distilleries in the United States. Luckett & Farley is fortunate to have played a significant role in the development of the industry since our early days.

Bourbon Heritage Month is a celebration of one of America's most iconic spirits, bourbon whiskey. It officially takes place in September each year. Here are our top 5 ways to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month:

1. Learn About Bourbon History: Take some time to educate yourself about bourbon. Read about its history, production methods, and the different types and brands available.Tour a distillery to experience the art of distillation. 
2. Support Local Distilleries: If you have local distilleries in your area, prioritize purchasing their products. If you are in Kentucky you have an ample number of local brands to choose from.
3. Be Different: Use Bourbon Heritage Month as an opportunity to explore different bourbons. Taste bourbons from various distilleries and regions to appreciate the diversity of flavors and styles.
4. Savor the Flavor: Incorporate bourbon into your cooking. You can use it in marinades, sauces, and desserts. Classic dishes like bourbon-glazed salmon or bourbon pecan pie are excellent options.
5. Mix it Up: Try your hand at mixing bourbon-based cocktails. Classics like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Mint Julep are a good place to start, but don't be afraid to get creative and invent your own bourbon concoctions.

Luckett & Farley's Distilled Spirits History

In the late 1890s our firm worked for several distilling companies designing the buildings that became known as Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville. In the 1930s we continued to design for a number of distilling brands that came back after prohibition. Luckett & Farley was also a pioneer in Kentucky’s bourbon tourism, designing the very first visitor center for Labrot and Graham Distillery, now Woodford Reserve. Over the course of our history we've helped shape every aspect of the distilling and aging process, and visitor experience, helping to refine – and redefine – Kentucky’s iconic spirits trade.
